My 1995 Pontiac Firebird was having problems, to say the least. It would not start and, in fact, "died" while I was leaving
my home one day. The engine had just been rebuilt and had less than 2000 miles on it. The break-in was gentle and all
internal parts were replaced and most external; the total cost of the rebuild exceeded $8,000.
I knew that the problem was electrical and contacted Randy Marion Pontiac to see if they could diagnose the problem and
if so how much it would cost. Robin, in the service department, said that it would be approximately $100 to diagnose the problem
- I received a call several days later and was told, by Robin, that the "computer" was showing that my problem was a faulty
"Opti-Spark."
This was not a great suprise to me because of the nature of hte Opti-Spark. I had the car towed back to my home and began
to replace the Opti-Spark. However, I could not get the harmonic balancer off the engine...Here is where the fun begins...See
the next page for details.
